Carpinteria girls water polo opened their season with a bang, taking down Foothill Tech by a score of 17-2 on Tuesday.
It was a wire-to-wire win for the Warriors, as Lilli Nemetz won the sprint and scored right after the first whistle. That goal sparked Carpinteria, who scored eight unanswered goals to open the contest.
The defense did its part as well, not allowing a shot on goal until midway through the second quarter.
Freshman Hazel Dugre led the team in scoring in her first game as a Warrior, finding the back of the cage eight times. Giulia Piccoletti followed Dugre’s performance with four goals of her own.
Devyn Clayton and Nemetz each scored a pair while Caden Lemere rounded out the team’s scoring with one goal.
Carpinteria will take the rest of the week off and are set to take on San Marcos and Oxnard next week.
