San Marcos boys basketball dropped a matchup with St. Bonaventure by a score of 68-58 on the road on Wednesday.
The Royals struggled out of the gate in their return from winter break, falling behind 40-22 after the first half.
“We were a little out of sync at the start,” San Marcos coach James Kinzler said. “We had a really hard time getting stops, but had some nice transition buckets in that first half.”
The third quarter swayed in San Marcos’ favor, as Joe Pasternack nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead down to six heading into the fourth.
However, St. Bonaventure managed to pull away in the final quarter for the win.
“I’m proud of our effort and our resiliency tonight,” Kinzler said. “It would’ve been easy to let that one get away from us, but our guys stuck together, strung together strong defensive efforts and moved the ball to get us back into it.”
Danny Diaz led the team in scoring with an impressive 22-point performance. Micah Jacobi and Pasternack followed in scoring with 14 and nine points, respectively.
