San Marcos girls water polo took down Buena by a score of 17-10 on Tuesday at the Royals pool deck.

The Royals got a balanced scoring attack, with six different players scoring and four players registering multi-goal games.

Sophie Yonker led the way with five goals while Lily Bordofsky was just behind her with four. Rounding out the players with multiple scores were Scarlet Akin and Shea Estabrook with three goals apiece.

Maxine Knocker and Reese Danhauer each found the back of the cage as well, with Danhauer also collecting four assists in the win.

Defensively, Serenity Stanfield was solid at goalie with nine saves.

San Marcos, now 19-3 on the season, will kick off the Newport Elite 8 Tournament with a matchup against Mater Dei on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Carpinteria 17, Channel Islands 3

The Warriors dominated both ends of the pool in a blowout win over Channel Islands at home.

Carpinteria used a strong 5-0 first quarter to pull away early and cruise to the 14-goal victory.

“The Warriors used good defensive positioning at the center position to protect the interior area and the perimeter players cued in and provided pressure on the outside shooters,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said.

Hazel Dugre turned in a monster performance both offensively and defensively, leading the team with five goals and a whopping nine steals in just three quarters.

“Hazel was everywhere, even when she wasn’t near the action she appeared out of nowhere to put her hand on the ball,” Otsuki said. “Hazel could have put together an all-time stat sheet but instead distributed the ball unselfishly to get her teammates involved.”

While Dugre was a standout on the scoresheet, plenty of Warriors got involved in the big win. Caden Lemere scored four goals, Ruby Cluderay registered a trio of scores and Mina Handall scored twice.

Meanwhile, Sara Fakinos, Kim Ocampo and Jade Rochlizer each scored one goal.

Carpinteria (12-6, 5-1 CCL) will take on Nordhoff on Thursday.
