Carpinteria High track & field competed in a four-team, non-league meet against Foothill Tech, Cate and Thacher on Wednesday.
The Warriors girls squad scored 56 points to take home second place while the boys ended in third place with 22 points.
Foothill Tech won both the boys and girls meets while Cate finished second in the boys and third for the girls.
Girls
The Warriors won six of the 16 events on the girls side of the meet, falling just three points short of Foothill Tech.
“Foothill’s depth was too much to overcome,” Carpinteria coach Van Latham said. “I was pleased we were that close with the Dragons. We were short-handed because of spring break, the girls we had performed very well.”
Individual winners in the field events included Amarisse Camargo (shot put, 32-8), Melani Avalos (discus, 100-10), Averi Alexander (triple jump, 32-4.5) and Leona McClellan (high jump, 4-0).
When it came to the track events, Mika Mullikin (300 hurdles, 51.98 seconds), Lela Roberts (100 hurdles, 18.50 seconds) and Giarys Gomez (400 meter, 1:08.21) came out on top.
Finally, the Warriors 4×400 relay team of Mullikin, Gomez, Izzy Scott and Kiana Kia ran a season-best time of 4:26.42 for the first-place finish.
Boys
On the other side, Carpinteria picked up a pair of individual winners on their way to third place.
Wes Chung won the 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 16.85 seconds while Nathan Carillo cleared 9-6 for a victory in the pole vault. Chung also had a personal record of 44.63 seconds for third place in the 300-meter hurdles.
“Today was a fun, low-key meet against strong competition,” Latham said. “In soccer terms, it was friendly. The athletes that were able to participate today were rewarded with many quality performances.”
Carpinteria will take on Fillmore next Wednesday in a Citrus Coast League matchup where the Warrior girls will be vying for a league title.
