Carpinteria High Swim & Dive Shines at Royal Invitational

Carpinteria High swim & dive came home with a pair of second-place finishes at the Royal Invitational in Simi Valley on Saturday.

The Warrior boys finished with 442 total points while the girls squad collected 309 points. In total, Carpinteria earned six CIF Div. 2 consideration times and one school record.

“We had some great swims today and the team rode the momentum,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said. “The kids let it loose today, swimming their races aggressively.”  

Girls

Giulia Piccoletii broke her own school record in the 100 breaststroke, finishing second overall and bettering her time by .12 seconds.

Meanwhile, Lilli Nemetz picked up individual wins in the 100 freestyle (56.12) and the 200 freestyle (2:01.76).

“[Nemetz] swam both races perfectly, she took them out fast and held on to finish strong,” Otsuki said. 

In the 4×50 relay, Piccoletti and Nemetz joined Hazel Dugre and Izzy Scott to take home second place. Later in the day, Piccoletti, Nemetz, Scott and Lucy Moore finished second in the 4×100 relay.

The 200 medley relay squad of Allison Banks, Mina Handall, Devyn Clayton and Dugre finished in first place while Moore’s personal-best time in the individual 100 backstroke earned second.

Boys

Jackson Melton joined Nemetz as Carpinteria’s double winners with victories in the 100 freestyle (0:49) and 200 freestyle (1:50.38).

 “Jackson has found a groove in the freestyle events this year,” Otsuki said.

The only other individual to place first for the boys was Stefano Piccoletti in the 100 breaststroke.

Second-place finishers included Eli Sheaffer (200 IM), Jake Ehlers (500 freestyle), Jacob Otsuki (100 freestyle), Asher Smith (100 backstroke) and Sky Korling (200 freestyle, 100 fly).

“Sky had a great meet, dropping over four seconds in his 200 free and a second and a half in his 100 fly to finish just .13 off the school record,” Jon Otsuki said.

In the relays, the quartet of Melton Ehlers, Smith and Otsuki registered second-place finishes in the 4×50 and 4×100 freestyle relays. Matthew Endo also touched third in the 100 backstroke.

“The Royal Invitational met our expectations to serve as a dress rehearsal for our league finals next week,” Jon Otsuki said. “There is a lot of confidence within the team, we are on target with our taper as we turn towards the home stretch of our season.”

Carpinteria will host the Citrus Coast League Finals at the Carpinteria Community Pool on Tuesday and Thursday.
