The woman killed in a Vandenberg Village homicide over the weekend was the mother of the suspect arrested in the case, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office revealed on Monday.
Denise Ann Carter, 71, was found dead inside a residence in the unincorporated community near Lompoc, said Raquel Zick, sheriff’s public information officer.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at approximately 6:45 a.m. Saturday to the area of Sami Lane and Khouri Circle for a report of suspicious circumstances.
They discovered Carter dead inside a residence on Khouri Circle, Zick said.
Detectives identified and arrested Brooke M. Carter, 46, of Lompoc and Oklahoma in connection with the killing.
The suspect is the victim’s daughter, Zick added.
The cause and manner of death and possible motive were not released by the Sheriff’s Office.
Carter was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail, where she remained Monday night, with bail set at $2 million.
