The nomination period for Lompoc City Council’s District 1 seat has been extended to Wednesday, Aug. 14 because incumbent Councilwoman Gilda Aiello has not filed for reelection.

The deadline was 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 for open council seat nominations, including for the offices of mayor, District 1 councilmember, and District 4 councilmember.

The mayor serves a two-year term; councilmembers serve a term of four years.

According to the rules, if an incumbent officer did not file for nomination by the Aug. 9 deadline, the filing deadline would be extended to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

As of 5 p.m. Aug. 9, the list of qualified candidates who have filed for office is as follows:

Mayor

District 2 – Councilmember

District 3 – Councilmember

Candidates interested in a nomination to run for the District 1 seat may obtain nomination papers at the Lompoc City Clerk’s office at Lompoc City Hall. For an appointment to pick up papers, call the clerk’s office, 805-875-8241.

If no one or only one person is nominated for an elective office, appointment to the elective office may be made as prescribed in Section 10229 of the Elections Code of the State of California.

Polls will be open 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
