Two women received serious injuries in a head-on collision early Friday morning east of Santa Maria. 

At 5:40 a.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County and Santa Maria Fire departments were dispatched to the 1500 block of East Betteravia Road, county fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

The crash involved two adult female solo drivers, one of whom required minor extrication from the wreckage, Safechuck said.

Two American Medical Response ambulances transported the women to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment of moderate injures.

East Betteravia Road east of Santa Maria was closed for a time Friday morning due to the crash and investigation. 

California Highway Patrol officers were investigating the cause of the crash.
