Santa Barbara County Horticultural Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at
Trinity Lutheran Church, 909 N. La Cumbre Road, Santa Barbara.

The meeting will explore the objectives, species palettes, horticultural techniques, and challenges associated with Channel Islands Restoration, a nonprofit conducting ecological restoration projects at Pt. Mugu and the Carpinteria Salt Marsh to restore and protect salt marsh and sand dune habitats.

The two sites are some of the most impacted habitats in California due to human encroachment and development, invasive species, sea level rise, and other threats.

The 2024 Carpinteria Salt Marsh effort is a small project where work is being done to reestablish native vegetation for private clients in the Sandyland neighborhood.

The other active marsh/dune project is at Pt. Mugu, a naval base where workers are revegetating marsh and dune habitat as part of a mitigation project to restore natural tidal flow to the marsh.
