Ready to Hang, the region’s largest pop-up art show, opens 4-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Community Arts Workshop (CAW), 631 Garden St., Santa Barbara.

Now in its fifth year, the show is open to all local artists for creations 12-inches-by-12-inches in size. The theme for 2024 is Connectivity.

Ready to Hang offers an opportunity for patrons to view new works by members of the local community of artists in one show. It is free to attend.

Ready to Hang is the largest event put on by the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative (SBAC) on their home turf at the CAW.

“Ready to Hang is both a public display and an intimate glimpse into the creative practices of our incredible art community,” said Michael Long, Ready to Hang curator. “It offers artists a chance to come out of the studio and share their work with one another.”

Ready to Hang typifies the spirit of the CAW as space for everyone to
create and share.

In 2023 SBAC exhibited 450 pieces of art by more than 200 artists, with some 1,000 people viewing the show.

This year, the team is changing things up by limiting one piece per artist and
ending entries once 350 pieces have been reached.

Ready to Hang pop-up sale supports local artists and is a fundraiser to support the SBAC’s programs. All artworks are for sale by dozens of area painters, photographers, assemblage makers, tattoo artists, fabric artists, and printmakers.

Prices set by the artists range from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars.

Three cash prizes will be given out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as determined by guest judge Tom Pazderka, the curator for the SB County Office of Arts and Culture.

Music for the public sale will be provided by Tripform, the music duo of Pablo Manzarek and Norm Reed.

Purchases will be available to take home after 6 p.m. the day of the show.

Submissions this year are already nearing the 300 mark. Artists interested in participating can visit sbcaw.org/hang or contact Long at 805-729-2425 or michaelevanlong@gmail.com.
