Santa Ynez High girls tennis captured the CIF-CS Div. 2 championship with a 5-2 victory over Clovis West High on Tuesday afternoon.
It is the first CIF-CS title in the history of the program.
“The team showed incredible grit and teamwork throughout the match,” Pirates coach Jennifer Rasmussen said. “Every single player gave it their all, and their determination, drive and teamwork were truly inspiring.
“This victory is a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season. We couldn’t be prouder of these incredible athletes.”
Santa Ynez started the day strong with a pair of doubles victories courtesy of Keegan Withrow/Haley Townes and Kate Mazza/Natalie O’Shaughnessy.
Withrow and Townes fell behind 2-0 in their matchup before rattling off eight straight games to take the win.
Then, needing just three wins in six singles matchups, Townes, Mazza and O’Shaughnessy came through with victories in straight sets to put the finishing touches on the CIF title.
