San Marcos girls water polo capped off the Newport Elite 8 Tournament with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday.
The Royals began the day with a 14-9 win over Bishop’s High and rounded out the weekend with a 15-7 victory over Laguna Beach.
“Our girls displayed a lot of character and grit this weekend coming off finals week and sickness,” Royals head coach Chuckie Roth said. “The girls did a great job reconnecting and our play got much more fluid over the course of the weekend.
“We have a very special group and it’s time to hunker down and finish the season strong.”
In the matchup against Bishop’s, Charlotte Raisin, Lucy Haaland-Ford and Naomi Enright led the offensive attack while Bethany King racked up seven blocks.
Shea Eastabrook, Jade Pattison and Lily Bordofsky turned in solid efforts in the second game of the day to help the Royals pull out the win.
San Marcos will take on Dos Pueblos for a rivalry matchup on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Elings Aquatic Center.
Dos Pueblos @ SoCal Championships
Dos Pueblos girls water polo finished off the SoCal Championships Tournament with a doubleheader sweep to clinch fifth place on Saturday.
The Chargers opened the day with a 12-8 victory over Marlborough High behind a six-goal effort from Dev Wigo.
Meanwhile, Alina King dished out five assists and Megan Garner collected eight blocks and four assists.
Dos Pueblos then rounded out the weekend by pulling out a 6-5 victory over Carlsbad High.
Carlsbad had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds but Dos Pueblos’ Talia Marshall came away with a steal, her third of the game, to clinch the win.
Wigo and Kyra Jones scored two goals apiece for the Chargers while Hana Abel and Keira McAvoy each scored as well. Garner ended the day with seven blocks.
With the sweep, Dos Pueblos improved to 13-8 on the season.
Santa Barbara High @ Los Altos Conqueror Classic
The Dons went 1-1 on the final day of their tournament on Saturday, defeating South Pasadena 10-6 before falling to Long Beach Poly, 10-9, in overtime.
Nina Abraham had a big day in the cage with 16 total saves, including 10 in the victory over South Pasadena.
Juliana Horton led the way on both ends of the pool with eight goals and six steals across the two games.
Meanwhile, Yesenia Dunn scored six goals and Rose Nelley tallied six assists, six steals and four exclusions earned. Kana Wolfe recorded two goals and four exclusions earned.
Santa Barbara High (13-13) will host Rio Mesa on Monday at 3:15 p.m.
