The UC Santa Barbara Men’s Tennis Team bounced back from losing the doubles point and secured a 4-1 victory over Pacific on Sunday afternoon.

The Gauchos dominated in singles play to earn yet another win on their home courts.

UCSB faced an early challenge after Pacific claimed the doubles point in a tightly contested battle. The Tigers took the early edge with a 6-2 win on court three, but Lucca Liu and Diogo Morais responded with a 6-4 victory on court two to even things up.

The deciding match came down to a high-stakes tiebreaker on court one, where Pacific’s Ran Amar and Christof Schaertlin Coffey edged UCSB’s No. 35-ranked duo of Gianluca Brunkow and Dominique Rolland in a thriller, 7-6 (9-7).

Despite trailing 1-0, the Gauchos stormed back in singles play. No. 25 Gianluca Brunkow wasted no time, delivering a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 99 Tiago Silva on court one to even the match at 1-1.

On court four, No. 73 Diogo Morais made quick work of Vraj Patel, winning 6-3, 6-0 to give UCSB the lead.

Charlie Underwood followed with another decisive performance, taking down Terence Das 6-2, 6-1 on court six. Dominique Rolland then sealed the win, downing Justas Trainauskas 6-4, 6-4 on court three to clinch the match for the Gauchos.

Two matches remained unfinished, with Lucca Liu locked in a tight third set against Ran Amar, and Conrad Brown battling Jonty Giesen after splitting sets.

The UC Santa Barbara Men’s Tennis Team now heads on the road for the first time this season after closing out their homestand with a strong finish.

The Gauchos will take on the University of South Florida in a neutral-site match on Saturday, Feb. 15, followed by an away match against Florida Atlantic on Sunday, Feb. 16. Matches will take place at 8 a.m. and 7 a.m. PT, respectively.
