Bishop Diego boys volleyball swept a doubleheader against Fillmore and Nordhoff at the Bishop Quad on Saturday inside the Brick House.

The Cardinals, who swept both matchups, are now 4-0 through their first four games of the 2025 campaign.

“Today was another great opportunity for us to compete early in the season,” Bishop Diego head coach Dillan Bennett said. “To have four matches under our belt in the first week has allowed us to see what we have.

“We have really good kids on this team, and I look forward to seeing these guys every day. That goes a long way in what we hope will be a long season for us this spring.”

The Cardinals cruised to a three-set win over Nordhoff, 25-12, 25-11, 25-19 and followed that up with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 win over Fillmore.

John Michael Flint tallied eight kills and four aces while Tyler Roberts tallied five aces against Nordhoff. Flint followed that up with 11 kills and three aces against Fillmore with Mason Bidlow adding six kills and three blocks.

“Every player on the roster contributed today,” Bennett said. “We were able to try different lineups and see guys in different rotations and positions.

“To have guys like Tyler Roberts to step up and play a leading role for us, and guys like Luke Walters and Sunny Piola come in off the bench to help us score more points is really helpful.”

Will Neubauer ended the day with 27 assists while Harry Hayman turned in a pair of strong defensive performances.

“Will and Harry will rarely get the stat lines that guys like Nick and John Michael get because they score points for us, but they are a critical piece to our puzzle,” Bennett said. “Harry is passing the ball really well, and Will has done a better job in the last week of finding our best hitter when we need a point.

“As seniors, I’m excited for them to be playing well right now, and we’ll continue to lean on them as the season progresses. As my former coach, Mike Beresford, always says, ‘If you can’t pass, you can’t play’. We’re really lucky to have a solid passing core and a good setter running our offense.”

Bishop Diego (4-0, 1-0 Tri-Valley League) will be on the road against Valley Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Beach Volleyball

Laguna Blanca beach volleyball cruised to a 5-0 sweep of Thacher on Saturday.

The No. 2 pairing of Charlie Carrington and Daphne Shiebler led the way with a strong victory in straight sets.

“All our pairs did well at holding down their courts and bringing good energy,” Owls coach Max Reid said. “Charlie Carrington and Daphne Shiebler did very well and found their groove on the court, both worked together well at finding their shots on the court. “
