A driver who received major injuries was one of two people hurt after a vehicle slammed into a building in Solvang on Friday morning.

At 7:40 a.m., Santa Barbara County Fire Department personnel responded to the 1200 block of Mission Drive after receiving a report a vehicle had crashed into a building, Fire Department spokeswoman Karen Cruz-Orduña said.

The vehicle was traveling between 35 and 40 mph when the crash occurred, she said.

The woman driving the vehicle was taken by helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of major injuries, Cruz-Orduña said.

A passenger, a male teenager, was transported to the hospital by American Medical Response ground ambulance.

The structure had exterior damage, Cruz-Orduña said.

The building houses several businesses including ones involved in tile and flooring.

Law enforcement officers were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
