Welcome to the bustling streets of Japan.
No airfare needed. It’s just a cruise to the Hollister Village Plaza in Goleta to taste the flavors of Takashi Ramen.
The menu is a product of family recipes and the dream of Natacha Chaiseree, who one day wants to go big and become the next “Habit Burger,” with restaurants everywhere.
“You are never going to eat food like this in Santa Barbara,” Chaiseree said. “This soup is from us, a family recipe. It is over 100 years old.”
Takashi Ramen opened last Friday at 7060 Hollister Ave., Suite 102, and the most popular dish is the 24-hour Tonkotsu Chashu Ramen, which includes “rich pork broth, five tender slices of chashu pork, and thin noodles that will transport your taste buds to the bustling streets of Japan,” according to the restaurant.
With a Japanese father and a Thai mother, Chaiseree brings authenticity to the food. She is the chef and spends every day in the kitchen cooking. She previously worked at a ramen spot in Camarillo but decided to move back to Goleta, where she lived previously to help take care of her aging mother.
Chaiseree said the goal of her restaurant is to make it fast, delicious and affordable. She has self-pay stations for people who don’t want to order at the counter. The benefit, she said, is that people don’t have to tip at the kiosk.
Chaiseree said the name Takashi means to “fight” or “never give up,” a quality she said she possesses.
So far, the business has been a success, with more sales than she expected. She considered opening a restaurant in Santa Barbara but settled on Goleta because of the UCSB students and many government and tech workers in the area.
Santa Barbara, she said, was too risky for her.
“In Santa Barbara, a lot of restaurants come and go,” she said.
It’s her goal to expand the restaurant and open franchises around the state.
“I am looking for a partner,” she said. “I want to grow my business. I know there are a lot of incredible, start-up people in Santa Barbara.”

The Narrative Loft Moves to Kiva Cowork
Santa Barbara event venue The Narrative Loft is under new ownership and has moved to Kiva Cowork, 1117 State St.
The new location provides an ideal option for couples with courthouse ceremonies, offering a convenient and stylish space for receptions and celebrations, according to a news release.
“When the building was sold, we were approached to keep the venue alive, and we knew that we had to find a creative solution to do so,” new owner Marina Anahita said. “We saw an opportunity to not only continue The Loft’s legacy, but also bring it into the spotlight by moving to the heart of downtown.
“By partnering with Kiva, we are able to offer the same ‘loft’ look in our main hall while offering a little more, including a trendy outdoor patio, an impressive-vaulted atrium, a lounge area and a prep kitchen space.”
