Santa Barbara-Sunrise Rotary Club marked its 40th anniversary March 6 with a dinner celebration attended by 60 people, including club members and several past presidents.
Rotary Club members adhere to the motto “Service Above Self,” and Santa Barbara Mayor Randy Rowse recognized the local club for its four decades of service to the community.
Santa Barbara-Sunrise Rotary Club is made up of local business, professional and civic leaders who donate their time, talent and treasure to support projects in the community and worldwide.
Local projects include:
- Hands-on improvement work at Camp Whittier, which is owned by the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County.
- Purchase and distribution of free dictionaries to all third-grade students in the Santa Barbara Unified School District.
- Providing laptop computers for students at Las Cuesta Continuation High School.
- Buying new clothing and backpacks for kids going back to school.
- Narcan training to fight fentanyl overdose.
Internationally, the Rotary Club supports an orphanage and surgical eye center in Mexico; in addition to funding clean-water projects, medical clinic improvements, a pharmacy project in Nicaragua, and a 30-year effort to eradicate polio in the world.
