Dos Pueblos boys golf edged out Santa Barbara High in a non-league match on Thursday at Santa Barbara Golf Club’s par 70 course.

It was a tight matchup as the Chargers finished with a team score of 381 while the Dons ended the day at 383.

“What made this win even more impressive was that it came without the presence of senior Teddy Vigna, who was away at a tournament,” Dos Pueblos head coach Kevin Ahlers said.

“Despite facing off against a very strong Santa Barbara team, the Chargers managed to pull out the victory, thanks in part to three personal best performances. It was a true team effort, with each player contributing to the win.”

Laith Reynolds paced the Dos Pueblos golfers with his even-par score of 70. He was followed by teammates Orlando Ramirez Gijon (73), Scott Nightingale (79), Coulter Jay (79) and Brooklyn Bustos (80).

Meanwhile, Santa Barbara High’s Alex Ortega led all golfers with a three-under-par 67 to pick up medalist honors.

The other Don golfers were Graham Chapman (72), Jeremy Westmacott (79), Peyton Webley (82) and Elliott Blinderman (83).

Both teams will take next week off due to Spring Break.

San Marcos 386, Valencia 433

The Royals picked up a non-league victory over Valencia on Thursday at Sandpiper’s par 72 course.

Andy Keenan had a strong day on the course with a three-under-par 69, good for the match’s medalist honor.

He was joined by Austin Downing (75), Himmat Singh (76), Ethan Klawuhn (83) and Adam Kabaretti (83).

“We got to play the front nine in perfect conditions, but the wind picked up on the back nine making it a little more challenging,” San Marcos head coach Jeff Ashton said.
