Carpinteria High track & field competed in a Spring Break friendly with Cate, Foothill Tech, Villanova Prep and Thacher on Wednesday.

The Warrior girls team came in first place with a team score of 94 while the boys team placed third with 69 points. As for Cate, the Rams came in second place in both the boys and girls meets.

“It was a productive day for both the boys and girls,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “We had quite a few PRs and seasonal bests. It was an added bonus to win the girls meet even though we were missing a fair number of athletes due to spring break.”

Averi Alexander and Melani Avalos led the way for the Warrior girls as Alexander won the long jump (14-5.5) and triple jump (33-2.25) while Avalos won the shot put (30-7.5) and discus (107-3).

On the track, Jackie Guadian took home first place in the 1,600-meter race with a personal-best time of 5:44.62. Giary Gomez also won her race with a personal record, finishing the 400-meter race in 1:04.08.

Halleh Gahan rounded out the Carpinteria girls standouts with a first-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.51 seconds.

As for the Warrior boys, Isaac Sanchez came away with victories in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles with times of 20.19 and 53.01 seconds, respectively.

Jeremy Haines was the other winner for the Carpinteria High boys squad, capturing first in the pole vault with a 9-foot clearance.
