The week of April 21 is Community Development Week (CD Week), a time to celebrate and showcase the programs and projects funded with federal grant programs like Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership.
CDBG and HOME are administered nationally by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The programs are needed to help the city’s most vulnerable residents and improve the overall condition of the city’s neighborhoods.
Every dollar of CDBG and HOME funding leverages more than $5 in other sources of funding, bringing additional vital resources to communities, the city said. To celebrate the funds, the following events are planned in April:
- Tuesday, April 1 – Community Development Week Proclamation. The City Council will recognize CD Week with a proclamation at the City Council meeting, 5:30 p.m., at 110 E. Cook St., Santa Maria.
- Tuesday, April 22 – The Community Programs Division will host a free public fair with local nonprofit organizations. Learn about local services, resources and programs. The resource fair is 3-6:30 p.m. in Shepard Hall at the Santa Maria Public Library, 421 S. McClelland St., Santa Maria.
- Wednesday, April 23 – Housing Rights Clinic. The Community Programs Division, in partnership with the Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County, will host a housing rights clinic to address housing issues such as fair housing, discrimination, and more.
The city’s Code Enforcement Division will be present to answer questions related to substandard living and other housing-related ordinances. The Housing Rights Clinic is 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Shepard Hall at the Santa Maria Public Library.
