The 2025 Deltopia Clean Up Day is set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, April 6; spearheaded by the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District (IVRPD) partnered with Isla Vista Community Services District, and UCSB Environmental Affairs Board (EAB) to maximize volunteer turn out.

Volunteers should meet at the IVRPD District Office, 961 Embarcadero del Mar.

The IVRPD office hub will host volunteer sign-ins and volunteer orientations, and distribute materials and supplies. Snacks and water will be available for volunteers, and at the end of the cleanup Woodstock’s Pizza will be served to volunteers who participated, on a first-come, first-served basis.

After arriving and signing in, volunteers will receive a bucket, trash-grabber, and map of Isla Vista with a highlighted route to follow.

The clean-up will focus on trash collection along four routes, Del Playa, Sabado Tarde, Trigo, and Pasado. Volunteers will follow the routes and pick up any trash they see along the way.

They can dump full buckets in onsite dumpsters or drop off with electric vehicles and bikes that will be following the volunteers and disposing of trash at the IVRPD office.

Volunteers also will receive a safety orientation that includes recommendations for where to focus litter abatement efforts and the logistical aspects of our program.

“Thank you to IVRPD, the IVCSD, and UCSB’s Environmental Affairs Board for leading the charge to clean-up Isla Vista after Deltopia,” said Laura Capps, 2nd District county supervisor and chair of the Board of Supervisors.

“I encourage everyone to come out and contribute to this important environmental stewardship initiative; every effort counts in keeping our Isla Vista community clean,” Capps said.

“The Isla Vista Recreation and Parks District aims to provide Isla Vista residents opportunities to give back to their community through programs such as our Stewardship Saturdays and Adopt-A-Block events,” said Thea Winterich, UCSB student and IVRPD stewardship coordinator.

“Contributing to the care of your neighborhood through events like our Deltopia clean-up is an essential way to continue to build up this unique community and offer residents a way to give back to this small, but diversely populated area.

“Volunteering is a form of collective, community empowerment, and we hope to provide our volunteers with these experiences,” she said.

“Every year, Deltopia brings in thousands of people and a massive amount of trash,” said Jenna Norton, IVRPD Public Works and sustainability director. “This litter often goes unnoticed thanks to the Adopt a Block’s Post Deltopia Clean Up Event.

“This event is essential and without it, litter would remain until it eventually makes its way into our storm drains. We highly encourage residents to show up and help us restore Isla Vista on this day.”

“”Isla Vista is a beautiful place to live and enjoy the ocean. People come from all over to visit, especially for massive events like Deltopia. Unfortunately it often leaves the community with a lot to clean up,” Rebecca Williams of the UCSB Environmental Affairs Board. “EAB annually joins in this effort to keep Isla Vista beautiful and keep trash out of the ocean.”
