The Parks and Recreation Community Foundation (PARC), Santa Barbara Beautiful and the Santa Barbara Department of Parks and Recreation will present Bob Baker Marionettes at Plaza del Mar Bandshell for two free shows, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at 131 Castillo St., across from Los Baños Pool.
Bob Baker Marionettes have traveled the world performing puppetry and entertaining children and adults.
Puppetry is an art form that combines design and technique with performing art and cultural storytelling.
“If you’ve never seen Bob Baker Marionette Theater, you’re in for a treat,” said Claudia Schou, PARC Foundation Board member.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic basket and blanket, hats and sunscreen.
The Plaza del Mar Bandshell was recently restored, demonstrating the PARC Foundation’s work to foster an inclusive space where all community members can gather and enjoy free artistic performances.
In addition to the Marionettes, PARC Foundation will partner with Santa Barbara Beautiful and Music Academy of the West to host “Brass at the Bandshell,” a free summer concert, 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26.
“The academy is thrilled to offer more concerts in the community, particularly at the newly renovated bandshell, which traces its historical roots to classical music performances,” said Indigo Fischer, artistic administrator.
“This concert, Brass at the Band Shell, will feature the academy’s brass fellows and teaching artists in a family-friendly, outdoor chamber music performance,” Fischer said.
