A 44-year-old woman has died and a man has been arrested after a stabbing Friday in Santa Maria.
At approximately 10:50 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1700 block of Rio Vista Lane for a report of a possible stabbing, Santa Maria police Lt. Paul Van Meel said.
Officers located a woman with multiple injuries at the scene.
The woman, a Santa Maria resident, was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center where she died from her injuries, Van Meel said.
A male suspect, identified as 63-year-old Eduardo De Guzman Torres, was taken into custody without incident, Van Meel added.
Detectives and crime scene technicians were sent to the scene — off East Newlove Drive, east of South Miller Street — to continue the investigation into the fatal stabbing.
Police did not disclose the possible motive for the altercation.
The woman’s name has been withheld pending notification of her family.
On Saturday morning, Torres remained in the custody of the Santa Barbara County Jail, with bail set at $2 million.
Additional information about the incident wasn’t available early Saturday.
