San Marcos girls swim shined at the CIF-SS Div. 1 Championship meet on Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College.
The Royals, who had four swimmers competing in the field, earned a fourth-place team finish in a field full of talent.
“Today was one of the best days in the history of San Marcos swimming,” San Marcos head coach Chuckie Roth said. “Our fabulous four girls battled in unprecedented heat, the deck temperature was over 100 degrees.
“The girls rose to the occasion, swimming almost all personal best times and state qualification times. We’re really lucky to have such a great group of young women.”
Senior Sierra Tallman led the way, placing fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.82 and fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.19 seconds.
Tallman’s 200 IM time set a new Channel League record and earned her All-American honors. Meanwhile, her time in the 100 butterfly improved her own school record.
Fellow senior Taylor Steelman also had a standout day, placing seventh in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.74 and coming in fifth in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 4:52.53. Her 500 freestyle time earned her the title of All-American.
Junior Sophia Hall registered a 15th-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a personal-best time of 24.21 seconds.
In the 4×50 freestyle relay, Tallman, Steelman, Hall and Sophie Yonker came together for a time of 1:35.56, good for fourth place.
That group also stood out in the 200 medley relay, taking home seventh place with a time of 1:46.68.
San Marcos will continue its stellar season at the CIF State Championships in Fresno next weekend.
