The Choral Society will close out its 2024-25 season, and the organization’s 77th year, with a concert titled “The Many Shades of Choral, ” 3 p.m., Sunday, June 1 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 909 N. La Cumbre Road, Santa Barbara.
“With a tapestry of favorite songs and challenging new pieces curated by artistic director/conductor JoAnne Wasserman, audiences will enjoy a range and complexity of musical selections from the likes of Maurice Durufle, Morten Lauridsen, and John Tavener, to Mozart’s ‘Solemn Vespers,’” the Choral Society said.
The concert includes Kenyan and Tazanian folk music and a piece titled “O Lasko, Lasko” that the choral group first sang on tour in Hungary and the Czech Republic in 2005.
With acoustics of the venue well-suited to the concert’s piano-only format, the singers will be accompanied by Kevin Su Fukagawa, who joined the Choral Society staff this season and masterfully manages the complexity of accompanying multiple voice parts, the Choral Society said.
Attendees are invited to join the chorus, staff and board for a closing celebration in the Fellowship Hall following the concert.
Tickets are $10-$30 and include the post-concert reception. For tickets, visit sbchoral.org, or at the door.
