Warm temperatures are expected in Santa Barbara County this week, peaking in the high 80s along the coast and the low 90s in the Santa Ynez Valley on Wednesday and Thursday. 

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for 11 a.m. Wednesday to 9 p.m. Thursday. The agency says that there is an increased risk of heat illness and warns not to leave people or pets in closed vehicles.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, stay in an air conditioned room, and to check in on relatives and neighbors.

Gusty winds are also expected this week and there is an increased risk of grass fires in the mountains, deserts, and valleys, according to the NWS.

On the South Coast, temperatures are expected in the high 70s on Tuesday, with cooler temperatures closer to the coast. 

Temperatures are expected to increase into the low 80s on Wednesday and Thursday. Patchy dense fog is also expected Thursday morning before 11 a.m. and then again after 11 p.m., continuing until Friday around 11 a.m.

Temperatures will cool off slightly on Friday, returning to the high 70s, and then dropping back down to the mid 70s on Saturday and Sunday, according to NWS.

Santa Ynez Valley will see the worst of the heat this week. Residents can expect a high of 89 degrees on Tuesday with west northwest winds of five to 15 mph and gusts up to 20 mph. 

Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid 90s on Wednesday and Thursday before dropping back into the high 80s on Friday. 

Dense fog is also expected in the early morning and evenings starting Thursday and continuing through Sunday, according to NWS.

The rest of North County can expect temperatures in the high 70s on Tuesday and the mid 80s on Wednesday and Thursday.
