The Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons successfully hosted the Santa Barbara Junior Team Tennis Individual Tournament this past weekend, drawing 104 local junior players who competed in both singles and doubles at three local venues: Westmont College, Pershing Park, and the Santa Barbara High School tennis courts.
The event marked the conclusion of the spring season for Santa Barbara Junior Team Tennis, a program designed to introduce young athletes to team-based competition.
The tournament not only fosters a sense of camaraderie in an otherwise individual sport, but also helps prepare many participants for future competition on their high school tennis teams.
“This tournament is a culmination of everything the players have worked on during the
season,” said Greg Tebbe, the Executive Director for the Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons.
“It mirrors the format of high school and NCAA individual tournaments, which take place following their team seasons, offering the kids a glimpse into more advanced levels of play.”
