Starting Thursday, May 29, downtown Santa Barbara will get a new kind of ride — a free, all-electric shuttle service.

Created in partnership with the city of Santa Barbara and operated by Sweep SB, the State Street Loop will operate every Thursday through Sunday, noon-7 p.m. for six months.

The route runs from Stearns Wharf to Sola Street, with clearly marked hop-on/hop-off stops along the way.

How it Works:
• No app. No schedule. Just hop on.
• Two 5-seater electric golf carts, and one ADA-compliant cart, run in a continuous loop.
• Stops are easy to spot — and the ride is free.

The State Street Loop is one of 11 official short-term action items identified in the city’s State Street Master Plan.

“It is designed to test solutions that support a more walkable, accessible, and vibrant downtown experience,” the city said.

Hoping to hear from the public about the new shuttle, onboard iPads will be available to gather quick rider feedback throughout the pilot, the city said.
