Southern California Edison has activated public safety power shutoffs (PSPS) and issued warnings for wide swaths of the Santa Barbara South Coast.

About 915 customers had active PSPS outages in Santa Barbara County Tuesday morning and another 10,600 customers were in areas being considered for the shutoffs, according to the SCE Outage Map.

Active PSPS areas, shown with black lines, include the San Marcos Pass corridor and areas along the Gaviota Coast.

Large portions of the city of Santa Barbara are included in the PSPS warning area.

Daytime temperatures in the high-70s and low- to mid-80s are expected in Goleta and Santa Barbara, respectively, early this week.

Utility companies consider PSPS outages “due to heightened wildfire risk.”

PG&E, which provides power service to the North County, does not forecast any public safety power shutoffs this week.

The county Office of Emergency Management said people who live or work in a potentially PSPS-affected area should prepare for a possible multi-day outage.

SCE set up community resource centers in Goleta and Santa Barbara, open until 10 p.m. Tuesday, with restrooms, water, snacks, and places for people to charge phones and other devices, the county said.

The centers are located at Residence Inn, 6350 Hollister Ave., in Goleta, and Louise Lowry Davis Center parking lot, 1232 De la Vina St., in Santa Barbara.
