The Ventura County Board of Supervisors unanimously appointed Ronald Miller II to the position of chief probation officer at its June 24 regular meeting.

The appointment follows a competitive recruitment process that drew candidates from across the region. Miller steps into the role following the retirement of former Chief Probation Officer Gina Johnson in June.

“We’re very excited to welcome Ronald Miller to our team as he steps into this important leadership role,” said 4th District Supervisor Janice Parvin, board chair. “We’re confident that his longstanding experience and proven leadership will guide the agency forward with success.

“His deep commitment to community investment, combined with an extensive career in law enforcement, makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead the Ventura County Probation Agency.”

Miller joins the agency following a 35-year career in the field of probation in both San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

Most recently, he served as the chief probation officer for the Riverside County Probation Department, where he oversaw over 1,000 employees, 10,000 adult and juvenile clients, and managed three juvenile halls.

Additionally, during his tenure in Riverside County, Miller was a founding member of the Riverside County Office of Education’s Foundation and served as the Southern Region Chair for the Chief Probation Officers of California.

Miller holds a BA in English from Cal State University, San Bernardino and a MA in organizational leadership from California Baptist University. He is also a veteran, having served both in the United States Marine Corps (Reserve) and the California Army National Guard.

Miller will assume his role effective in July at a salary of $261,577.37.
