The clouds parted over East Beach on Saturday morning as local swimmers and racers competed in the 86th Annual Semana Nautica Summer Sports Festival.
Saturday’s festivities featured four challenging competitions that allowed the members of the local swim community to flex their muscles, and they did just that.
Here are the top finishers from the Stud Ironman, 2-mile swim, 1,000-meter surf event and East Beach Run.
Stud Ironman

The stud ironman is one of the toughest, if not the toughest, events of the weekend. Competitors swam approximately 1,000 meters and ran 2 miles in alternating fashion up and down East Beach until they crossed the finish line.
Kyle Visin was the top finisher in the 2025 Stud Ironman race, and he was joined on the podium by Cutler Gabriel and Jason Smith, respectively.
The first female to finish the grueling race was Caitlin Swalec, who placed eighth overall. She was closely followed by Whitney Bruice in ninth place.
Mackenzie Beard wrapped up the race in 16th place overall and was the first 17-and-under competitor to finish.
Not far behind Beard, Sloan Visin came in 18th to take the top spot in the 10-and-under age division.
Aya Cohen’s 31st-place showing was the best for a 9-and-under competitor, and Utah Roth took home the top 12-and-under finish after coming in 34th place.
1,000 Meter Surf Teams
The Surf Team competition at East Beach featured a surf relay race between teams of no more than three competitors.
The trio of Jon Ford (54), Jon Bishop (54) and Jeremy Kipp (48) came together to finish as the top Open 18+ division team thanks to their performance.
In the 10-and-Under division, Lineea Bernal (10), Sloan Visin (10) and Aya Smith registered a first-place finish after combining for 31 points.
The tandem of Alison Bernal (41), Tessa Hope (13) and Kari Hope (44) reached across generations to form a team and come away with 20 combined points as a Mixed Team.
Meanwhile, Joseph Sarquilla (41), Albert Bolanos (47) and Leandro Bolanos (41) combined for a team score of 32 in the Open Team division.
13-year-old Kumani Roth finished as the top solo team in the field, followed by Jim Cherry (68) and Sheryl Kip (59).
2-Mile Swim
In the Mullen & Henzell 2-Mile Swim, Conner Martilla emerged from the water first to take home the title. He finished with a time of 40:25 as the top racer from the 18-39 male division.

He was closely followed by Myles Peck, who crossed the finish line in 40:42 to lead the 40-49 male division. UCSB standout Kyle Brill rounded out the top three with a time of 41:20.
A pair of 17U female swimmers rounded out the top five as Wendy Zeiss and Grace Nackers placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Zeiss finished the race with a time of 44:34 while Nackers registered a time of 44:54.
Other division winners were Andrew Robins (50-59 Male), Hannah Holman (18-39 Female), Jim Avrea (60-69 Male), Kate Allan (40-49 Female), Linda Simons (50-59 Female), Jim West (70-79 Male), Patricia Lownes (60-69 Female) and Margret Frankcom (70-79 Female).
