Born on Nov. 6, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sheryl was the cherished daughter of Marcia and Asher Segal, and the devoted sister of Harriet, Jerome, Jewel and Sandy.

In August 2024, Sheryl moved to California to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law.

Sheryl led a distinguished career as a systems engineer at the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C., where she lived for many years and made lasting contributions through her decades of service.

She earned her undergraduate degree from Boston University, and completed her graduate studies at the University of Maryland.

A world traveler, Sheryl found joy in exploring new places, crafting stories, and listening to the music that shaped her generation, especially the Grateful Dead and The Beatles.

She had a particular fondness for Portuguese water dogs, and was known for her strength, intellect, and unique sense of humor.

Above all, Sheryl’s greatest pride and joy was being a mother to her son Steven Frankel. She supported him unconditionally, from early mornings at the hockey rink to encouraging his love for travel and global discovery. Their bond was deep and unwavering.

Sheryl is survived by her son Steven Frankel (Shannon), along with a wide circle of family and friends who will remember her fierce love, brilliant mind, and incomparable wit.
