Santa Barbara’s Allie Jones claimed a bronze medal in the heptathlon at the Toyota USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Friday.

Jones scored 6,164 points in the two-day, seven-events competition. She finished behind four-time defending champion Anna Hall, who won four event en route to 6,899 points, and Taliyah Brooks, who scored a personal-best 6,526 points. Fourth-place Timara Chapman also went over 6,000 points with 6,065.
Jones, a San Marcos alum who competed collegiately at Stanford and USC and holds the heptathlon scoring record at both schools, had a pair of third-place finishes in the competition: in the 200 meters (23.88) and the 800 (2:06.70). She was fourth in the 100 hurdles (13.37) and long jump (6.09 meters/19-10), fifth in the high jump (1.72m/5-7) and eighth in the javelin (37.12m/121-9) and shot put (12.92m/42-5).
By finishing third, Jones qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.
Hall took a commanding lead after the first day of the heptathlon, scoring 4,097 points. She clocked 13.12 (3rd) in the 100 hurdles before clearing 1.90m/6-2.75 for first in the high jump. She won the shot put with a lifetime best of 15.02m/49-3.5 and she finished the day with a winning time of 23.56 in the 200. On the second day, she was second in the long jump (6.32m/20-8.8) and first in the javelin (47.32m/155-3) and the 800 (2:04.60).
