A driver was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash between Buellton and Lompoc on Friday as the three-day Labor Day holiday weekend began.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., emergency personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol responded to the incident on the 6400 block of Santa Rosa Road, approximately 5 miles west of Buellton.

A minivan slammed into a tree, causing fatal injuries to the male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, county Fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said. 

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Safechuck added.

The man’s name, age and hometown will be released after family members have been notified. 

CHP officers from the Buellton area were investigating the crash.
