The No.9-ranked Santa Barbara City College women’s volleyball team has won 10 consecutive sets as they bested El Camino College 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-23) on Friday.

The undefeated Vaqueros relied on their determination and poise to hold off a charging Warriors squad in the third set.

“After cruising in the first two sets, we fell behind in set three, 9-17, mainly off of one really aggressive server on their side,” said head coach Kat Niksto. “I was proud of the team for not giving up on the set, and instead battling back and tying up the game at 18-18.”

Outside hitter Bayley Padia proved to be a difference maker, posting a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs.

“Bayley had a great game. She was really our go-to hitter when we needed a kill,” said Niksto.

Valeria Bellodas‘ defensive effort led the Vaqs with 16 digs, including her 500th career dig. She also posted four aces while serving.

3C2A player of the week, Hazel Irving, converted 10 kills on 13 attempts, with Chaya Clemons adding another nine kills.

Stephanie Groswirt and Morgan Guardado continued their strong setting play, collecting 21 and 19 assists, respectively.

The Vaqueros travel to Pasadena City College on Wednesday to face the No. 11 Lancers.
