A man sought after a shooting and standoff in Santa Maria was taken into custody Friday.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Santa Maria Police Department officers responded to the 1400 block of Via Arbolitos after receiving information that a wanted subject was seen at a nearby residence, Lt. Nate Totorica said Saturday.

Severiano Flores, 36, was known to have multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest, Totorica said.

Flores had been sought after a shooting and standoff Aug. 29 at a house on the 500 block of East El Camino Street.

SMPD’s Gang Suppression Team, along with patrol and K-9 officers, established a perimeter and attempted to contact Flores.

However, upon seeing officers, Flores fled on a bicycle, crashing a short distance away, Totorica said.

When he fell due to the crash, Flores dropped a loaded firearm in the process, Totorica added.

Officers safely took Flores into custody, and a search of his belongings revealed a second loaded firearm, Totorica said.
