San Marcos and Dos Pueblos boys water polo each dropped their opening games of the South Coast Tournament on Thursday in Orange County.
The Royals fell to The Bishop’s, while the Chargers suffered a loss to Campolindo High.
The Bishop’s 12, San Marcos 7
The Royals fell behind 3-1 after one quarter of play, but came battling back to tie the game up at 3-3 in the second.
The Bishops responded with a strong end to the second and third quarter to balloon its lead back out to 10-5 with one quarter left.
The fourth quarter was an evenly-matched battle, but San Marcos could not mount a comeback and ultimately fell, 12-7.
Will Stuart led the Royals with four goals in the loss to begin a weekend full of action.
San Marcos will take on Beckman High on Friday at 4 p.m.
Campolindo 12, Dos Pueblos 6
The Chargers struggled in the first quarter as Campolindo raced out to a 5-0 first-quarter lead.
Dos Pueblos couldn’t recover from there, as it kept the game close but ultimately fell by six goals.
Grant Nelson’s three goals were good for the team-high, while Tyler Racin scored twice. Aricin Marshall tallied two assists and one steal, and Koa Zertuche ended the day with eight saves.
The Chargers are now 10-3 on the season.
