Drivers are advised that temporary delays will occur on various streets in Santa Maria during the Citywide Road Resurfacing Project, Wednesday, Sept. 24 through mid-November. It is recommended to use alternate routes when possible.
The project will include the removal of existing traffic striping; placing of a chip seal (new road wearing surface); re-establishment of traffic striping; and installation of new traffic loops.
The city is contracting Pavement Coating Company to perform the $3 million project funded by Measure A, Gas Tax, and SB-1 Gas Tax dollars.
“As one of its Smart City, Safe City programs, the Department of Public Works diligently tracks the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) to assess the condition of streets,” the city said. “Based on available funds, including tax revenue from gas purchases, staff conducts annual assessments and develops road projects.”
The following streets that are part of this project are scheduled to be chip sealed as indicated below:
• Hidden Pines Way from Preisker Lane to Railroad Avenue – Wednesday, Sept. 24.
• Preisker Lane from Hidden Pines to North Broadway – Wednesday, Sept. 24.
• Carlotti Drive from Seaward Drive to East Donovan Road – Wednesday, Sept. 24.
• Suey Road from Donavan Road to Main Street – Thursday, Sept. 25-Friday, Sept. 26.
• McCoy Lane from Skyway Drive to South Broadway – Thursday, Sept. 25- Friday, Sept. 26.
• Stowell Road from Nicholson Avenue to Miller Street – Monday, Sept. 29-Tuesday, Sept. 30.
• Jones Street from College Drive to Bradley Road – Monday, Sept. 29-Tuesday, Sept. 30.
• Main Street from Nicholson Avenue to Suey Road – Monday, Sept. 29-Tuesday, Sept. 30.
• Bradley Road from Main Street to 101 on-ramp – Monday, Sept. 29.
• Morrison Avenue from Pine Street to Depot Street – Monday, Sept. 29.

• Blosser Road from Donovan Road to Morrison Avenue – Thursday, Oct. 9 -Friday, Oct. 10.
• Alvin Avenue from Curryer Street to College Drive – Thursday, Oct. 9 and Monday, Oct. 13-Tuesday, Oct. 14.
• Alvin Avenue from College Drive to Suey Road – Friday, Oct. 10.
• Blosser Road from Morrison Avenue to Betteravia Road – Monday, Oct. 13-Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Permanent restriping and loop installation will occur later. The contractor will post construction notices to residents and businesses along affected streets with the dates when parking and access to streets will be prohibited or limited, the city said.
Driveways to businesses will be opened always.
City staff recommend drivers obey all temporary construction signs and reduce driving speeds in construction areas.
