Santa Barbara City College student-athletes Ava Barclay (women’s water polo) and Bayley Padia (women’s volleyball) earned Western State Conference Athlete of the Month recognition on Tuesday.
Ava Barclay
Barclay has been a standout netminder for the Vaqueros this season. She has a .613 save percentage, earning a 13-1 record in matches she starts. The 74 goals allowed over 41 quarters of play is tops in the state.
Not only has Barclay been a stalwart goalkeeper, she has contributed as an offensive player, collecting four assists and three steals against Ventura on Sept. 24 and two goals with an assist against Fullerton on Sept. 12.
The No. 2-ranked women’s water polo team travels to Ventura on Oct. 10 and 11 for a tournament where they will compete in four matches over the two days.
Bayley Padia
The San Jose native remains a crucial component among the Vaqueros’ diverse offensive options. Padia paces No. 6 SBCC with 144 kills on the season and averages 3.00 kills per set. She collected 95 kills in September.
Accompanying her impressive attacking statistics, Padia added 71 digs, 15 aces and 12 total blocks across nine matches in September, demonstrating her well-rounded play.
Women’s volleyball travels to Ventura and LA Pierce this week before returning to Robertson Gymnasium on Fri. Oct. 17.
