Things aren’t so good for Goodland BBQ.

The people behind the Old Town Goleta restaurant told Noozhawk on Thursday that it is closing at the end of the month.

Goodland BBQ opened in early 2022, a vision of Tommy Ramirez and chef Tony Bones.

Bones is a fifth-generation Santa Barbara resident, and Ramirez’s grandfather was Pascual Gamboa, owner of the popular Pascual’s Mexican Restaurant on Victoria Street in Santa Barbara.

The restaurant, at 5725 Hollister Ave., specializes in Texas barbecue, including chicken, brisket, tri-tip, pulled pork and ribs.

Del Pueblo Cafe Needs a Miracle

The owners of Del Pueblo Cafe in Santa Barbara are raising money to stay in business, according to a GoFundMe they set up.

“Due to the current economic situation, we’ve fallen behind on some bills. Our rent, which is close to $9,000 a month, has put a really heavy strain on our finances as a small business,” the post states.

“We are now being asked to pay $32,741.69 in past-due bills that we’ve been doing our best to keep up with. We have until Friday, October 10th, to pay or we will have to close our doors.”

As of Thursday evening, the campaign had raised nearly $23,000.

According to its website, the Mexican restaurant “exudes warmth and welcomes guests with open arms. With its cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and a menu bursting with mouthwatering dishes, it’s the perfect place to unwind and savor a delightful meal.”

It is located at 5134 Hollister Ave. in the Magnolia Shopping Center.

Yetz’s Bagels Coming Soon

Crews are working hard daily inside Yetz’s Bagels in the Target shopping center in Goleta.

The company hung a “Coming Soon” sign above its spot, near the Ca’Dario restaurant and Dune Coffee.

Yetz’s Bagels is already popular in Isla Vista, at 901 Embarcadero del Mar, selling bagel sandwiches, gluten-free wraps, fresh salads and more.

Cookie Plug Gets a Fresh Start

Cookie Plug plans to open at 6529 Trigo Road, Suite B in Isla Vista.

Cookie Plug owner Annette Rodriguez was unceremoniously booted from her downtown Santa Barbara location in April. She had a dispute with the landlord, the City of Santa Barbara, which she said did not offer her a new lease. She opened in 2024.

But it’s a new day.

The cookie shop, known for its urban, hip-hop vibe, sells large cookies with names such the OG Cookie (chocolate chip), the Good Luv Cookie (red velvet cake cookie) and the Nutty OG Cookie (chocolate chip walnut cookie).

Early Halloween Downtown

Businesses on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara will offer candy to costumed children and their families for an early trick-or-treat adventure.

The trick-or-treating is set to start about 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Businesses that participate usually place balloons or signs outside their doors.
