High school students from Providence School are giving their time and talents to support children at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara. As part of a new service initiative, Providence students volunteer several afternoons each week to tutor elementary-aged students in reading, writing and math.

The program, coordinated by Providence faculty member Brittany Newman, pairs Providence students with Boys & Girls Club members in grades one-six. Each volunteer commits to at least one session per month, with many choosing to serve more frequently.

“This is such a valuable opportunity for our students to not only share what they’ve learned but also to invest in younger kids right here in our community,” said Newman. “It’s a beautiful way to live out our mission of inspiring young minds to lead and serve.”

Students also see the impact firsthand. “I love being able to help a younger student understand something that used to be hard for me,” said one volunteer. “It’s fun to encourage them and see them feel proud of themselves.”

By tutoring weekly in subjects ranging from homework help to skill-building, Providence students are supporting the Boys & Girls Club’s mission of enabling young people to reach their full potential.
