San Marcos boys water polo earned a runner-up finish at the Steve Pal Tournament at San Juan Hills High School on Saturday.
The Royals began their day with an 18-13 victory over Downey in the semifinals before falling by a score of 22-16 to Laguna Beach in the title game.
In the semifinal win over Downey, Christian Yonker poured in an impressive seven goals to lead the San Marcos offensive attack. Meanwhile, Will Stuart scored three goals and Jack Kramer found the back of the cage twice.
Yonker filled up the stat sheet, also collecting five steals and drawing four ejections. Stuart tallied three assists and two steals as well.
The duo of Yonker and Stuart continued to roll in the championship games, but scoring four goals apiece was not enough to take the win.
Ryder Wilson contributed on the offensive end as well against Laguna Beach, recording two goals and four assists.
San Marcos will open the Channel League Tournament against Rio Mesa on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Oxnard at Rio Mesa High.
