A man reportedly entered a Santa Barbara home through an unlocked door last month and sexually assaulted an adult inside before fleeing the area, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.
Detectives identified a suspect and officers arrested Eduardo Gallardo-Arizmendi, 22, of Santa Barbara on Oct. 30 in the 100 block of East Carrillo Street, according to police.
He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape, burglary, and false imprisonment, according to arrest records.
The District Attorney’s Office filed criminal charges Monday accusing Gallardo-Arizmendi of assault with intent to commit rape, first-degree burglary, forcible oral copulation, oral copulation of an unconscious person, and enhancements including violating his probation, according to Santa Barbara County Superior Court records.
SBPD officers responded to the 100 block of Juana Maria Avenue in the early morning hours of Oct. 18 for a report of a prowler, but were unable to locate the suspect after searching the area, police said in a statement Monday.
Detectives also identified Gallardo-Arizmendi as a suspect in a robbery reported Oct. 25 at a business in the 2000 block of State Street, police said.
The District Attorney’s Office charged him with a count of second-degree robbery on Monday in connection with that allegation.
Police reported that Gallardo-Arizmendi was booked on a $1 million bail and Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office custody records show that he was being held without bail as of Tuesday.
A preliminary hearing setting is scheduled for Nov. 13 in Santa Barbara Superior Court.
At the time of the allegations, Gallardo-Arizmendi was on probation following a September felony assault conviction in Santa Barbara County, according to Superior Court records.
Court records also show Gallardo-Arizmendi has prior convictions in the county for battery in June 2025 and first-degree burglary in January 2023.
