Moving Miss Daisy’s Consignment & Auction House
Question: Year the business was established?
Answer: 2020 and moved into the old Sears store in 2022.
Q: What inspired you to start your business, and how does it cater to the needs of the 55+ community?
A: It all began naturally, organically. Owner Glenn Novack’s mother was where Moving Miss Daisy all began. She needed help to downsize and move into a retirement community. Glenn packed up his mother’s house, but still had some nice pieces that would not fit into the new place.
What to do? As the business grew, I was inspired by my sister to open the consignment store. Now five years old, the store has an open door to seniors and their dogs to come in and shop at Miss Daisy’s. On Sunday’s starting in November live jazz comes back to the store. From 2-5 you can sit an enjoy the music, or stroll through the aisles and shop to the music.
Miss Daisy’s has become the go-to place for many to buy furniture, art, lighting, dining room sets and all kinds of antiques, patio furniture and occasional plants.
Q: What unique products or services do you offer that help seniors live well and age wisely?

A: Roach, the store manager told me “Our customers are awesome people with whom we have established meaningful relationships.
We all get so much joy in helping them find just the right thing. They send us photographs of our items in their homes… We become part of their lives.”
Additionally, Moving Miss Daisy LLC is the Santa Barbara Chapter of Safe Moves for Seniors.
We provide free moving assistance to qualified low-income seniors, ensuring dignity, support, and care during life’s transitions.
It will be its’ own nonprofit and we need to raise funds to be able to provide moving services for the low-income seniors. Please call the store for more information.
Q: How does your business support seniors in staying active, healthy, or engaged in their community?
A: All items not sold in the store are designated to go to the Santa Ynez Valley Community Outreach which provides essential services—from Meals on Wheels and senior resources to food distribution for Veterans and cancer patients—offering nutrition, safety checks, and critical support.
Miss Daisy’s also has a program called “Consign for a Cause.” (Modeled after the Cars for Causes program). People who want their fine art, furnishings or other items that are approved by Glenn to go into Miss Daisy’s for consignment and have their favorite nonprofit be the beneficiary as the ‘consignor.’ We’re also a vendor at the Goleta Senior Expo held at the Goleta Community Center every month.
Q: Are there specific programs, events, or offers you’d like our readers to know about?
A: Yes, the Safe Moves for Seniors is a new program we’ll be starting up in the new year. It will be its’ own nonprofit and so we need to raise funds to be able to provide moving services for the low-income seniors. www.SafeMovesForSeniors.org
Q: How can readers learn more about your business or get started with your services?
A: Please go to our website and look at the tabs on the front page for the steps on how to consign your gently loved belongings. If you want to shop sustainably, this is the place.
Home Services
Q: What services do you offer to help seniors age in place comfortably and safely?
A: Moving Miss Daisy is all about helping seniors with downsizing and moving their belongings.
Retail & Lifestyle
Q: What lifestyle products or services do you offer to enhance the day-to-day lives of seniors?
A: When even the thought of moving becomes too over whelming for a senior we can help by bringing in a team of people to review your living space to help pack, move, sift and sort through items that might be better suited to an auction or to sell in our consignment store.
Q: How do you ensure your retail offerings are tailored to the preferences and needs of the senior demographic?
A: We offer discounted prices on home furnishings, lighting and more. In the hopes the lower price helps the seniors not have to pay top dollar. Many of the pieces we have in the store bring back fond memories.
Q: Are there any upcoming sales or promotions our readers should know about?

A: Miss Daisy’s is like a treasure hunt – every day is a sale day! Unique finds abound. Watch for prices falling on the tickets – you’ll have to visit the store often. And if you really like the piece, buy it then and there.
Recently we created a new feature on the Shopify store — You can now make offers on any item available both in-store and online, in addition to purchasing at the listed prices.
Simply log into our Shopify store, browse through our collection, and submit your best offer. Your offer may be accepted, declined, or countered.
You’ll also find “Best Offer” pads around the store allowing you to make an offer, then take it to a sales manager for a yes or no answer.
Live Jazz returns to the store in November — from 2-5 pm come in and enjoy the live music.
Nonprofits and Government Programs
Q: What programs or resources does your organization provide to support seniors in the community?
A: Safe Moves for Seniors is going to fill a niche left open — moving expenses can really discourage a senior from even starting the move process. Qualifying seniors will be able to apply for the program when they need it.
Providing respect for the seniors and a way to help them with a move. Go to the Safe Moves for Seniors Tab on the front page of the website.
Q: How can seniors or their families get involved in your nonprofit initiatives?
A: We welcome anyone with experience in development who is interested in helping to raise funds for Safe Moves for Seniors to get in touch with Glenn Novack directly – Glenn@SafeMovesofrSenior.org or call the store and leave him a message at (805)770-7715.
Q: What advice do you have for families looking to have open conversations about end-of-life wishes?
A: Ask your loved one about their belongings, sooner than later. This way you can give their things to the people and places they desire.
Q: What services or products do you provide to make this stage as smooth and meaningful as possible?
A: Miss Daisy’s has a “Consign for a Cause” program letting donors assign the consignment portion of the sale price to go to their favorite nonprofit. We can also manage Estate Sales and online Auctions with LiveAuctioneers.com getting our client the best price we can in the international market.
