A fire at a storage yard generated a dramatic column of black smoke Wednesday morning in Santa Maria and damaged multiple vehicles.
At 10:32 a.m., members of the Santa Maria Fire Department responded to a report of smoke in the 2800 block of Industrial Parkway, Battalion Chief Anthony Morales said.
Other firefighting personnel dispatched to the incident reported a large header of smoke seen from downtown.
The Engine 6 crew from the fire station based at the Santa Maria Public Airport arrived at the incident first and found a cargo truck engulfed in flames, Morales said.
Two other cargo trucks in the immediate proximity were at risk of also burning, according to the Fire Department.
While the first crew initiated an aggressive fire attack, Engine 4 arrived to assist.
Two trucks were destroyed while the third received significant damage.
There were no injuries, Morales said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday.
