Dos Pueblos boys basketball took over the middle stages to pull away for a 62-48 victory over Point Loma on Saturday inside Sovine Gym in Goleta.
After a back-and-forth first quarter that saw the Chargers go up 17-16, Dos Pueblos found its groove on both ends of the court and went on a 38-15 run across the second and third quarters to balloon the lead to 55-31.
From there, the Chargers fended off the Point Loma comeback effort on their way to the non-league win.
“In the second quarter, we made a couple of defensive adjustments and we were able to get deflections and steals, which translated to transition buckets,” Dos Pueblos head coach Joe Zamora said. “I was really happy with our defense, our deflections and rebounding.”
Wyatt Gardiner led the Chargers on the offensive end and had a strong night rebounding the ball. Iyad Ahmad-Reda dominated the paint, and Evan Pinsker facilitated the offensive attack well.
