Megan O’Carroll has stepped down from her post as the Dos Pueblos girls volleyball head coach, the school announced Thursday.
O’Carroll was at the helm of the Charger girls volleyball program for nine seasons, including some of the best in school history.
“After nine seasons, stepping down as the varsity girls volleyball coach at Dos Pueblos was always the plan, but that doesn’t make it any easier,” O’Carroll said.
“Coaching this program has been one of the greatest joys of my life – the relationships built, the growth I’ve witnessed, and the legacy we’ve created together mean more to me than words can express.”
During her time as head coach, she led Dos Pueblos to Channel League titles in 2019 and 2021, breaking a drought that went back to 2011. She also reached the CIF-SS playoffs in eight of her nine seasons as head coach.
From back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2018-19 and 2019-20 to crosstown rivalry wins, O’Carroll brought plenty of success to Sovine Gym.
“Megan O’Carroll has transformed DP girls volleyball through her leadership, vision, and commitment to excellence,” Dos Pueblos athletic director Sienna Van Alphen said. “She’s built a culture of grit, heart, and unity that has left a lasting mark on our athletes and program.
“Filling her shoes will be no easy task, and DP athletics is incredibly grateful for her remarkable contributions.”
O’Carroll will now have more time to spend with her children as they begin their own careers in sports.
“My kids have grown up in the gym with me; my son was just one year old during my first season, and my daughter was born during my time as head coach,” O’Carroll said. “As they get older (9 years old and 6 years old) and begin their own sports journeys, it’s important to me to be there for them in the same way I’ve been there for my teams.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I’m deeply grateful to the DP athletic department for trusting me with this program for so many years.”
Dos Pueblos is now looking for experienced coaches who may be interested in the head coaching position for next season. Those interested can reach out to Van Alphen at svanalphen@sbunified.org.
