The Santa Maria Cemetery District hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently to mark the grand opening of its new office building at 1651 S. College Drive.

The Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce assisted with the event that represents a major achievement in the district’s multi-year effort to modernize its facilities and support the southern expansion of the cemetery grounds.

The previous office was nearly 30 years old, and there was a need for an updated facility to meet the needs of the community of Santa Maria.

The event was attended by County Supervisor Steve Lavagnino; Santa Maria Cemetery District Board trustees Bob Engel, Lee Diaz, Carmen Vadillo, Mark Evans and John Tunnel; and cemetery staff.

Also attending were representatives from local companies that assisted in the project’s completion: Martinez & Associates, Bethal Engineering, Kirk & Simas, RDZ Construction, JD Humann, and Community Bank of Santa Maria; local mortuaries; and members of the public.

The Santa Maria Cemetery District staff welcome visitors to come by the new office and find out about other changes that have taken place and future expansions.
