Westmont Women’s Basketball (8-2, 4-0 PacWest) rolled to its sixth win in a row on Saturday, finishing off 2025 competition with a 75-46 win over the Silverswords of Chaminade (0-9, 0-5).
Offensively, Jazmyn Shipp produced 19 points to lead the Warriors in scoring, making nine of 14 attempts from the floor. She also collected six rebounds. Bailey Fong tallied 15 points and dished off four assists. Mariah Brown added 13 points to the Warrior cause, to go with three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Sage Kramer notched nine points, five rebounds and two steals.
The Warriors were dominant on the boards, outrebounding the Silverswords 53-22. Westmont notched more offensive rebounds (23) than the Silverswords did on both sides of the floor. Lisa Kiefer tallied 17 rebounds – 13 from the offensive glass – in 26 minutes of play. All ten Warriors that took the floor tallied at least one rebound.
“We did a great job on the glass. We definitely needed that with how poorly we shot,” quipped Westmont’s head coach Kirsten Moore. “It was tough to find a basket, especially from the perimeter. That usually doesn’t happen at home. We are better shooters than that.
“However, I’m definitely proud of our persistence to crash the board. Lisa, obviously, led the way with that. Navine gave us a great spark off the bench with four o-boards. Our effort in that area in a game when we were not shooting our best was great to see.”
Westmont shot just 16.0% from beyond the arc (4 of 25). With its height advantage, however, the Warriors controlled the paint, outscoring Chaminade from the lane 34-12. They also produced 21 second-chance points.
Also contributing to the Warriors’ success were 13 steals, compared to the Silverswords’ three. Westmont posted a points-off-turnovers advantage of 25-6.
Ask to assess her team at this point of the season, Moore responded, “I think we have put ourselves in a position to be in the fight. That is where we want to be. Coming back, our first two games are against teams near the top of the conference standings. So, we are going to see where we are at. That can keep us motivated over break.
“We have to keep getting better. We are definitely not where we want to be – especially putting together four quarters on the defensive end. So, we are going to keep working towards that. However, I am excited about the potential of this group and their buy-in. There is a lot to look forward to in the new year.
After taking a break for Christmas, the Warriors will continue PacWest play on Saturday, January 3. Westmont will host the Cougars of Azusa Pacific (7-4, 3-1) in a women’s and men’s doubleheader. The women’s game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men scheduled at 7:30 p.m.
