It will be raining threes all over the South Coast for the next few days as more than 30 high school boys basketball teams visit the area to participate in the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic, hosted by Santa Barbara High.
The Dons will be joined by San Marcos, Dos Pueblos and Bishop Diego in an event that includes 58 games featuring teams from all over the state. There will be 11 games played on Friday, 13 on Saturday, 18 on Monday and 17 on Tuesday. The Santa Barbara, San Marcos and DP gyms will be hosting games.
Santa Barbara (4-6) opens play Friday at 7:30 p.m. against a 7-2 Rocklin-Whitney squad from the Sac-Joaquin Section. On Saturday, the Dons get a rematch with Dougherty Valley of San Ramon at 7:30. They lost to the Wildcats last year in overtime
A crosstown rivalry highlights the Monday schedule as the Dons host a talented Bishop Diego team at 7:30. Tuesday’s finale is against Oakland Tech, the 2024 Division 2 state champion.
San Marcos and Dos Pueblos also will play four game in the Classic. The Royals (7-3) host undefeated Westmont High of Campbell (7-0) on Friday at 7:30, face Davis Senior at Santa Barbara on Saturday and play Oakland Tech on Monday (7:30) and Granada Hills on Tuesday (3 p.m.) at home.
San Marcos (9-3) is coming off a runner-up finish in the Gold Division at the Mission Prep Christmas Classic, losing to Maranatha by three (57-54) in the final.
Dos Pueblos opens at home Friday against San Francisco-Lowell and continues with home games against Holy Martyrs of Encino on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., Pinole Valley on Monday and Saratoga on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
After playing Santa Barbara, Bishop Diego takes on Davis Senior at SBHS on Tuesday.
